Good riddance 2010...2011, let's be besties.
I doubt many people hit this blog, due to the infrequency of posts, especially in 2010. Plus I am pretty sure Twitter and Facebook have killed or mortally wounded the blog as concept.
Why write long diary like posts when you can tell people how you feel about current politics, your family or favorite footbal team on a regular basis in less than 120 words?
For that matter, who wants to hear more than 120 words at time from friends and family period?
If I had a pre-requisite for friendship it might be "speaks only in 120 word statements." I could have personally saved a lot of time and phone bills if I had known that it would have been not just socially acceptable but popular to the tune of billions of dollars to ask friends and family to please keep all phone calls and conversations to 120 words.
Personally, I dont really like Facebook or Twitter. I get it, but I am not really a fan. I tend to use them only for business promotion purposes. I'm not big on opinions or thinking that what I am thinking at any given moment is profound or even correct. I tend to be wrong a lot. I don't really want to post my thoughts to EVERYONE I even tangentially know.
I always liked the blog concept. People have to seek it out. I have probably always used my blog more as a personal journal, that I am not afraid for others to see. You can ask my wife, I am a notorious and unapologetic diary or journal finder and reader. As an English major in college I think the diary as motif of novel killed my reverance for its privacy. In my mind if someone wrote it down, they must be putting it out there for someone to find and submit it to a Caldecott award committee. Blogs are like diaries I dont have to look under beds for, or get in trouble for or feel guilty about reading.
Plus, I really do enjoy going back and looking at the posts, photos, and drawings. It helps a guy like me remember things I was thinking about or was obsessed with long after the addictive parts of those obsesseions have passed through my blood stream.
Since I am probably more or less posting in a vaccuum, I am going to try to use this blog a little more often...more as a motivating journal type thing and less as a Captain Capitalism the project site (there will probably be no Captain Capitalism in 2011), but more as a personal blog..especially in 2011. I am not a fan of 2010.
Great things happened at my company, Powerhouse Animation. You can read more about that on the company blog. I split things off for Powerhouse onto its own blog late last year.
But one of the great loves in my life is outside of work personal projects, and I did not get much of that done in 2010. I had to analyze the causes for getting almost nothing done n 2010. The problem is, I volunteered to help others with projects way too much and spent a lot of time working on other people's projects. So many of them that I actually didnt get far on others projects and then was wracked with guilt about it. I became obsessed with working out and often over-worked to the point of exhaustion which prevented me from getting work done at night. I also finally wanted to make money on some personal projects or at least get them funded so I spent a lot of time writing grant proposal and trying to find other ways to fund it instead of just doing the work. I think I spent 3 weeks writing one proposal. Looking back on it, it was such a waste of time.
I miss working on projects terribly and plan to really make some ground in 2011.
I am not a complicated person. In fact summing me up in 120 words is pretty accurate and easy: "likes:Mandy, comic-books, fights, patriotic propaganda. has: kent glasses, bum-neck, yellow office. does: powerhouse, list maker/sometimes list doer, mantis-fu"
I am a resolution maker. Every year I make 100 resolutions. And for the rest of that year I read them every day. I put them in my planner and make calendars about them.
The biggy, non-personal, ones this year are the following:
1. get second-degree black belt
2. finish Krampus cartoon
3. finish 2 mins of fight choreography animation
I have made two other blogs to follow the progresses on 2 & 3.
Here they are:
http://krampuscartoon.blogspot.com/
http://godsfilm.blogspot.com/
I am going to work on them both today, go check them out. I will try to post something on both of them, and here weekly.
Happy New Year.
